Black Panthers are melanistic colour variant of Leopards. The average weight for a Black Panther is about 60 kg. A fully grown male Black Panthers can weigh up to 90kg.
The length of Black Panther’s footprint is shorter compared to tiger’s and is less than 7 cm. Their head and body length can reach up to 2 m.
Black panthers are nocturnal animals which make them active during the night and rest during the day.
Black panthers are intelligent, strong, agile and quite cautious. They are rarely seen by people in the wild. Black Panthers can run at a top speed of about 60 km/h. However, it only achieves this speed when running short distances.
Black Panthers mate throughout the year. After mating, both sexes will go separate ways. The female panther will find a den to give birth.
The Black Panther’s gestation period is about 15 weeks, and give birth to 1 - 3 cubs. The cubs are blind at birth and will be nursed for about 8 weeks.
Black Panther lifespan is about 15 - 20 years.
