Facts About False Gharial
The False Gharial is a large freshwater crocodile. It is only found in Southeast Asia.
It was given the name False Gharial due to its long and tapered snout resembles the Gharial crocodile found in Northern India.
The False Gharial can grow up to 6 meters long and 1,000 kilograms weight. It has a lifespan of 60 years.
The female False Gharial matures when it reaches the size of 2.5 - 3 meters. Female crocodiles lay between 20 - 60 eggs at a time. The eggs will hatch after 90 days.
Very few of the young False Gharial survive to adulthood as most are consumed by predators such as wild boars and snakes.
